Tell the Senate: SNAP Matters for Kids

Right now, Congress is considering the budget reconciliation bill, which includes historic, harmful, and unpopular cuts to SNAP - a program that helps millions of families put food on the table. These devastating cuts would put millions of kids and families at risk of hunger and hardship. This isn't okay, but there is still time for Congress to do the right thing.

This is where you come in! Write to your member of Congress and urge them to protect kids from hunger by rejecting these dangerous cuts to SNAP - one of the most effective tools we have to help families afford groceries and keep food on the table.

Tell Congress: Protect Kids, Don't Cut SNAP!

Dear [Decision Maker],

The SNAP proposals being debated as part of the budget reconciliation bill represent the most extreme cuts to SNAP in the program's history, putting millions of kids and families at greater risk of hunger and hardship.

In this bill, I reject:

- Requiring updates to the Thrifty Food Plan to be cost-neutral. This would decrease the value of SNAP over time - meaning it will be harder for families to keep up with rising grocery costs.

- Forcing states to pay even more of the cost to administer SNAP and, for the first time ever, to pay a percentage of SNAP benefits themselves. The reality is that states will be unable to shoulder this additional burden and millions of kids and families will be left struggling to put food on the table.

- Increasing the amount of SNAP participants subject to a time limit and the additional bureaucratic paperwork required for adults up to age 64. This will force more seniors and parents of young kids to meet the strictest work requirements. This fails to recognize the real barriers caregivers and older adults face in the workplace.

Right now is not the time to make life harder for children, families, and communities. SNAP is a vital program that ensures eligible participants receive the nutrition they need. I urge you to protect this program and reject any measures that would make it harder for families to put food on the table. Our communities are stronger, healthier and more resilient when every family has access to the food they need.

This bill will increase hunger for kids and families in our country and I urge you to vote against these harmful changes.

Sincerely,
