TELL CONGRESS: Support Kids. Strengthen SNAP.

Kids need your help. Right now, 1 in 4 children could face hunger this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But this is a problem we know how to fix. If Congress temporarily increases SNAP benefits, families facing extreme hardship would have the additional resources needed to feed their kids. But so far, Congress has failed these children by delaying passage of relief legislation that includes nutrition assistance.

It’s critical that Congress gets to work and passes relief legislation that includes this SNAP increase before the end of the year. Tell your Senators to prioritize families and children by passing relief legislation that increases SNAP benefits. Your support can make a big difference in the lives of hungry children. Thanks for making your voice heard.

Strengthen SNAP in the next coronavirus relief package

Dear [Decision Maker],

Specifically, I urge the Senate to:
* Temporarily increase the maximum SNAP benefit amount by at least 15%, which is about $25 per person per month;
* Temporarily increase the minimum SNAP benefit from $16 to $30;
* Offer additional SNAP flexibility to reflect the reality of our current situation, including the expansion of the Restaurant Meals Program.

SNAP supplements a family's food budget and is a safe and effective way to feed children. Strengthening the program so families receive a temporary benefit increase of about $25 per person each month is a lifeline for those who are facing extreme hardship - unemployment, rising food prices, eviction and hunger - because of this pandemic.

In addition to feeding families, SNAP also fuels local economies. The USDA's own research has shown that SNAP is proven to have a stimulus effect on the economy. Money spent at local grocery stores and markets lead to more jobs, wages and local economic activity in the community. SNAP benefits currently average about $1.50 per person per meal and often run out before the end of the month. During this time of great hardship, families are missing meals to make ends meet and parents are waiting in long lines at food banks so their children will not go to bed hungry. Congress must take action.

Due to the pandemic, millions of families are facing the hungriest holiday season in memory. I urge you to quickly pass relief legislation that strengthens SNAP. Children are counting on you.

Sincerely,
