TELL TEXAS LEGISLATORS: Support Summer EBT!

The Texas state legislature has the opportunity to fund and implement Summer EBT, a federal grocery benefit providing $120 per eligible child over the summer. With Summer EBT having the potential to reach 3.7 million Texas kids, it’s critical Texas leaders take the steps necessary to fund this program.

The Texas legislature, which convenes only every two years, is currently working on the state budget. Now is the time to act. If Summer EBT funding is not secured this year, Texas children will miss out on benefits until summer 2027. Write to your state legislator today and urge them to fight for Summer EBT funding.

End summer hunger by supporting Summer EBT

Dear [Decision Maker],

Each summer, millions of children in Texas lose access to school meals when the academic year ends, making summer one of the hungriest times of the year for kids. Summer EBT works alongside existing summer meals programs by providing families with $120 per eligible child to purchase food, helping to bridge the gap during a time when resources are stretched thin and food insecurity is more prevalent. The USDA estimates that 3.75 million Texas students could be eligible for Summer EBT benefits, which would deliver approximately $450 million in food aid to families across our state.

Beyond addressing hunger, Summer EBT is a powerful economic driver. Every dollar spent through the program generates between $1.50 and $1.80 in local economic activity, benefiting grocery stores, farmers' markets, and small businesses--especially in rural communities. This infusion of funds strengthens local economies and supports hardworking Texans.

Our current summer meal programs, while valuable, face limitations like insufficient distribution sites and logistical challenges like transportation and parents' work schedules. Summer EBT overcomes these barriers, providing families with the flexibility to purchase nutritious food directly.

Texas children are our most important asset, and their nourishment and development should be a top priority. I urge you to champion Summer EBT and ensure that Texas families have the resources they need to thrive.

Thank you for your time and dedication to serving our community.

Sincerely,
