WELOME BACK CONGRESS: Protect Kids from Hunger

With elected leaders - both new and returning - back in Washington, now is the time to take action to ensure children and families are top of mind this legislative session. While the new Congress is tackling many priorities, it’s critical for our lawmakers to remember that 1 in 5 children in the United States faces hunger. Our elected leaders can solve this problem by protecting and strengthening existing child nutrition and anti-hunger programs and building long-term bipartisan support for the policies and programs proven to work.

We encourage you to contact your members of Congress today and urge them to prioritize federal nutrition and safety net programs that protect families and children from hunger and hardship.

Personalizing your letter below will go further. To make your message more effective, please share why it's important to you to support families and kids in your community.

Protect Kids from Hunger

Dear [Decision Maker],

Today, 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. faces food insecurity. As you begin tackling important issues this session, it's critical that ending child hunger is one of them. Thankfully, this is a problem our nation knows how to solve. Existing child nutrition and anti-hunger programs like SNAP are the first line of defense against hunger, but they must be protected and strengthened in order to reach eligible families and kids.

I urge you to:

- Protect and strengthen programs like SNAP through a bipartisan Farm Bill. SNAP is one of our nation's most powerful tools to fight hunger.
- Restore an enhanced Child Tax Credit that meets the needs of kids and families.
- When Congress last expanded the CTC, they cut child poverty in half and helped millions of families better afford basic needs like food, diapers and school supplies.
- Close the summer meal gap, strengthen school meals and WIC, and improve family economic mobility.

As a constituent, your support of these policies and programs matters to me. This legislative session, I'm asking you to take the bold steps needed to fight hunger and poverty in our community.

Sincerely,
